Issue - Thursday, August 31, 1944 on Page 1 / Column 2. Henry F. Schmuhl died Aug. 29, 1944, at his farm home two miles south of Fairwater. Funeral services will be held, Friday, Sept. 1, at 1:30 pm. at the home and at 2:00 pm. in the Fairwater Lutheran church. The remains may be viewed at the home from Thursday evening until the time of the services. The deceased was born Dec. 1, 1877, at Fairwater, the youngest son of John and Minnie Schmuhl. His entire life was spent in and near Fairwater. During his young manhood he was associated in business in a general merchandise store in Fairwater and also in a feed elevator. On Sept. 6, 1904, he married Miss Hulda Bloch and they settled on the present farm. He was a life long member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Fairwater and a member of the Men's Brotherhood of that church. At the time of his death he was secretary of his congregation and treasurer of the Fairwater Creamery Co., Inc. He served as school clerk of the Grand River district, Jt. 10, for nearly 40 years and was actively engaged in all community affairs. Survivors are his wife, Hulda; a daughter, Mrs. Lolita Stevens of Oshkosh; three sons: Everett B. of Oshkosh, Cpl Milton H., now serving in the armed forces in the Southwest Pacific area, and Victor G. Schmuhl at home; a sister, Mrs. Louise Nest; three brothers: William, John, and Edward, all of Fairwater; three grandchildren: Diane Stevens, Roger and Michael Schmuhl of Oshkosh; and several nieces and nephews. Postnote: I am the great-granddaughter of Henry's brother, Edward. Not mentioned in the obituary was Henry's mother's maiden name: Heidel.
