Obituary: Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin: John SCHMUHL ************************************************************************ Submitted by Jean Schwon, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ This obituary was found in the Brandon Times, published in Brandon, Wisconsin. Issue - Thursday, February 24, 1955 on Page 1 / Column 3. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Fair Water (sic) Zion Lutheran church for John Schmuhl, 86, who died last Wednesday at his home south of Fair Water after a lingering illness. Rev. Peter Buenting officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. Cluppert and Miss Arlene Hanneman. Pallbearers were Oscar, Victor, Harold and Herbert Schmuhl, John Kantorovicz, and Walter Winkler. Burial was made in the Fair Water cemetery. He was born May 1, 1868 in Green Lake county to John and Minnie (Heidel) Schmuhl. His marriage to Miss Laura Sanders took place in Ripon May 3, 1905. She died May 3, 1947. A daughter died in infancy. There are nine living children: Arnold and Mrs. Fred (Erna) Freiheit, Markesan; Harry, Brandon; Mrs. John (Edna) Berndt, Manchester; Lloyd, Brandon; Clarence and Raymond, Fair Water; John, Ripon; Mrs. Herbert (Lucille) Silgman, Dalton. A brother, Edward, and a sister, Mrs. Louise Nest, reside in Fair Water. There are 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Postnote: I am the great-granddaughter of John's brother, Edward. One pallbearer was named as: Kantorovicz. My research indicates the spelling should be: Kantorowicz. I also have research indicating a son born to John and Laura which was not named in the obituary: Donald Julius Heinrich Schmuhl, born approx. 18/June/1907. It is possible the "daughter died in infancy" may be a misprint and should be named as a son. My research on this family to date did not indicate another daughter.
