HUTCHINSON, lead ore smelter and farmer, Beetown; born in Swaledale, Yorkshire, Eng., March 30, 1835; received a common school education arid a partial academic course at Platteville; came to this country in 1848 with his parents, and settled at Dubuque, Iowa; removed to Shullsburg, Wis., in 1852, and to Beetown in 1868, where he built a smelting furnace; it is at present the main industry of the place; he also owns smelting works and furnace at Potosi ; he holds the office of Town Clerk, and has been Chairman for a number of years. Wrote the history of Beetown, which was published in the Herald, and deposited, together with Grant County records, in the centennial box of Grant Co.; is at present on the Wisconsin Fish Commission, and has recently added a fishery to his establishment. Republican in politics; enterprising and wide-awake to the interests of the county.
