SHOWALTER, teacher of high school, Fennimore; son of John Showalter, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1833, and came to Lancaster when a young man. He married Phebe Roberts, who was born in Kentucky, and came to Grant Co. in 1840. They had two children - Clyde and Portia. Mr. John Showalter enlisted on the breaking out of the rebellion, in the 2d Wisconsin Cavalry; served three years, and re-enlisted for the war. He died from disease contracted in the army in June, 1865. Clyde graduated at the State Normal School at Platteville, in 1879.
