Deceased was born in County Mayo, Ireland, in 1825. He came to this country in 1870. He leaves a brother and a sister, Mr Patrick Conley and Mrs Michael Hanley, of Irish Ridge, to mourn his sudden and untimely death. He was a man of strong and vigorous constitution, one who was likely to live for many years, but Providence ordained otherwise …. The funeral was held from St Lawrence Church, Mt Hope, July 3d, a Requiem Mass being celebrated by the Rev Father McNulty, who delivered an eloquent and appropriate sermon, extolling the many virtues of the deceased. His admonitions to the living were gracefully and fittingly expressed. His life was one of patient industry and unquestionable honesty of purpose, in principal unswerving, and in the cause of truth and humanity generously noble as Christian and Catholic he was a man who commanded the respect of all whom he came in contact, the longer and better the acquaintance the stronger became the friendship. A noble life, but written not In any book of fame Among the list of noted ones, None ‘ever saw his name; For only his own friends knew The victories he had won; And well can they all testify How well his work was done.
