Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ***************************************************************************** Submitted by Valeria Reckert (LadyGenes@comcast.net), 2003 Frank Witzig 1831 – 1906 Obituary from The Fennimore Times, Fennimore, Wisconsin, May 11, 1906 Frank Witzig, an old and respected citizen of Green River, who has been in poor health for years, died of kidney disease at his home last Saturday, aged 66 years. He was born in Sempelburg, Germany, in 1840, and came to Eden, Iowa County, in 1854. He married Catherine Bunzeal of Highland. They came to Grant County and resided on the farm where he died, for the last 22 years. Mr. Witzig enlisted in 1861 and served in Co. E. 41st Wisconsin, during the remainder of the rebellion. He was a good soldier and an honest, upright man, held in high esteem by all his acquaintances. The funeral was held Monday from St Mary's church at Fennimore, Rev. Feld officiating. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters, four children having preceded him in death. The children living are Frank, Herman and George Witzig, Lizzie (Mrs. Fred Steinforth,) and Mary (Mrs. Frank Dempsey.) Mr. Witzig also leaves two brothers, Joseph of Clifton and Adam of Minnesota, and two sisters, Mrs. John Whitish, Sr., of Fennimore and Mrs. Kate Abram of Chicago.
