When a young man he came with his brother John to America and settled in the township of Liberty, Grant Co., Wisconsin. He was married to Miss. Jessie Whendel in 1854. They were the parents of twelve children, seven of whom are living. Two died in childhood and Andrew, John and Sarah after they were grown. About forty years ago the family moved to the farm where the son Sam now resides and in 1901 moved to the village of Preston where Mr. Whitish passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, in his 88th year. He was only confined to his bed the last two weeks and was a very patient sufferer. Being brought up in his Catholic faith he still prayed in his native tongue, and was willing and ready to go saying he wished the good Lord would take him home. Mrs. Whitish died in April, 1909. The seven children living who mourn their father are: Alex, who lived with his father; Samuel, Belle (Mrs. Geo. Needham), of Preston; David of Montfort, Edward of Stitzer, Minnie, (Mrs. Chas. Young), and Amelia (Mrs. Elmer Nelson) of Soldiers Grove. He also leaves three brothers, twenty-eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and friends. "Weep not for a father deceased, Our loss is his infinite gain; A soul out of prison released, And freed from its bodily chain; With songs let us follow his flight, And mount with his spirit above, Escaped to the mansions of light, And lodged in the Eden of love. No terror has death or the grave, To those who believe in the Lord, Who know the Redeemer can save, And lean on the faith of his word, O teach us thy will to obey, And sing with one heart and accord, he gave and he taketh away, And praised be the name of the Lord" Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Saturday, at the Preston church, Rev. Kershaw officiating and interment in Ebenezer cemetery. George Whitish, Fennimore Times, Fennimore Wisconsin, 24 Dec 1919 GEORGE WHITISH George Whitish was born in Prussian Poland, May 19, 1832, and died Nov. 26, 1919, at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 8 days. When a young man he came with his brother John to America and settled in the township of Liberty, Grant Co., Wisconsin. He was married to Miss Jessie Wendel in 1854. To this union were born twelve children, seven of whom are living, two died in childhood, Mary and George; and Andrew, John and Sarah after they were grown. About forty years ago the family moved to the farm where the son, Sam, now resides and in 1901 they moved to the village of Preston where Mr. Whitish passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 26, 1919 at 9 o'clock. He was only confined to his bed the last two weeks and was a very patient sufferer and was willing and ready to go, saying he wished the Good Lord would take him home, he was ready to go. What a blessed assurance. He was an honest and upright man and had a kind and loving disposition. His wife died in April, 1909, leaving him so sad and lonely, his children all being married but his son, Alex, who stayed and took care of his father in his old age and did the best he could to comfort him. The children, who are left, to mourn the loss of a loving father are: Alex who lived with his father; Samuel, Belle, Mrs. Geo. Needham of Preston; David of Montfort, Edward of Stitzer, Minnie, Mrs. Chas. Young; and Amelia; Mrs. Elmer Nelson, both of Soldiers Grove. He also leaves three brothers, 28 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Saturday at the Preston church, Rev. Kershaw officiating and interment in the Ebenezer cemetery. The large number of friends and relatives present at the funeral bore ample testimony of the esteem in which he was held. The month of November again is here, For us the saddest month of the year. Dear Father, who bade no one a last farewell. Who said good-bye to none, His loving heart had ceased to beat, And before we knew it he was gone. It is true he is gone but not forgotten; His memory shall never fade, Our lonely hearts will always linger Around the place where he is laid. Father, darling, sweetly sleep, A better father, could not be, One more true and kind. We miss you more and more each day A happy home we once enjoyed, Has left a lonesomeness the world can never fill. God, lead our lives That we may meet our father in eternity. Granddaughter, Mrs. Ben Kitelinger. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the kind friends and neighbors for sympathetic acts of kindness shown us during us during the sickness and death of our beloved father. Also for the beautiful floral offerings and the singers. THE CHILDREN
