She passed from this life on the morning of the 26th of February. She arose in her usual health, and spent the early morning hours visiting with her family, when nothing unusual was noticed. About eleven o’clock, feeling tired, she lay down and passed into that quiet sleep never to awaken to speak a word of consolation to her beloved husband and children. The first of her illness is supposed to have been brought on by a little over exertion about 2 years ago. Being naturally of a cheerful disposition, she made no complaints until about a year ago, when she was stricken with dropsy and heart failure. Since that time she has been a patient and uncomplaining sufferer, always bright and cheerful. When her children would come from a distance to see her, they would return to their home encouraged that their mother was going to get well. She has known only loving care and tender devotion from her beloved husband, who faithfully watched over her night and day through all her suffering. All that could be done for her was done, but medical skill and faithful care were unavailing. God saw fit to call her to that home he has prepared for the just. The deceased was born in Mayo, Ireland, in 1835. From there she moved with her brother, Richard Conley, to Warrington, England, in 1854, where she was united in marriage to Michael Hanley in 1856. From there she moved with her husband to Widnes, England, where 9 children were born to them, five sons and four daughters. The youngest girl died when a little child, also Mrs. Catherine Morgan, of Brooklyn NY, died about a year ago. Seven children survive their mother, Patrick Hanley, of Brooklyn, NY, Mark and John of Patch Grove, Mrs. Keating of Woodman, Mrs. Corcoran of Mt Hope and Michael and James who always remained at home. Mrs. Hanley came to this country with her family in 1883, arriving on the Irish Ridge on the 22nd of April, where her brother had prepared a comfortable home for them. She remained there until she moved to her new home on Green River, where she remained until her death. A large concourse of surviving friends assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to their esteemed friend. The funeral was held from St. Lawrence’s church on Monday, Feb. 28th. Services were impressively conducted by the Rev. Father McNulty. About seventy teams followed the remains to the cemetery, which is a sufficient evidence of the esteem in which she was held. We may truly say Mrs. Hanley was a loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a devout Christian. She will be greatly missed from this community. May she rest in peace. CARD OF THANKS Mr. Michael Hanley and family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors who assisted through the sickness and death of their beloved wife and mother. And especially those good boys that rendered their assistance on the day of burial.
