Mr. Whitish was a remarkable man in many respects. He has been active all his life and his keen eye, alert step and vigorous mentality, belied his great age. While his claimed to be 104 years old, and evidence shows that he was at least 101 years of age. Mr. Whitish was a well known figure on our streets, spry and active until very recently and for a time has resided with his son Alex on the old homestead. He came to this country 68 years ago. Funeral services were held last Wednesday morning from St. Mary's church at 10 o'clock, Rev. John Feld officiating, with interment at the Prairie Cemetery. A large concourse of friends and old neighbors turned out to pay the last tribute of love and respect to an old acquaintance and friend. John Whitish was born in Warsaw, Germany, Oct. 20, 1821, died Feb. 11, 1922, aged 101 years. He was united in marriage Nov. 15, 1851 to Miss Josephine Witzig, who passed away May 6, 1908. Thirteen children were born to them, three of whom preceded him in death: Adam and Julian and Mrs. Ellen Molzof. The children left to mourn are: John Whitish, residing at Yakima, Wash.; George of Fennimore, Wis., Kate Molzof, Preston; Edward and Aleck, Fennimore: Joseph, Plentywood, Mont.; Mrs. Mary Draszt, Medicine Lake, Mont.; Mrs. Annie Townsend, Alma Center, Wis.; Mrs. Rosie Townsend, La Moure, N.D.; Peter, Reserve, Mont. He also leaves two brothers, James Whitish of Fennimore and Jacob Whitish of Iowa. Also 47 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
