John Doser, for sixty years a citizen, died at the home of he son Frank in the village, Sunday August 19, 1917, aged 84 years. Infirmities of old age and the fracture of a hip sustained from a fall the day before were the causes of his death. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning from the home of his son Frank, to St. Thomas church, where he had worshiped for sixty years. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Prucha, and at the conclusion thereof the remains, followed by a very large number of people, were taken to the Catholic cemetery on the hill, and the last that was mortal of the dear old father was consigned to the graveby the side of his wife who preceded him Jan 13, 1916 Mr Doser was a strong adherent to the Catholic church, and died with all the rights of the church. He was born at Strasbourg, in the kingdom of Bavaria, Jan 27, 1833. When 24 years of age he bade adieu to his native land and sailed for America, landing March 1, 1857. He came direct to Potosi, and for more than sixty years continually made this his home. He was married to Miss Theresa Barnd in Potosi in 1860. To this union were born ten children, nine of whom survive, the eldest daughter, Mrs. Matilda Schumacher, dying July 29, 1897. Mr. Doser was an honest and upright citizen. A devoted husband and fond loving father, and a very industrious man. In his early married life he purchased a small tract of land on the bluff northeast of Grant River, where he built a small house and with his wife settled down to make a home. In those early days Kinney and Co’s steam sawmill was in full blast, working night and day to supply lumber for the larger part of the county. Mr. Doser was employed in this mill and it is said that he would work all night and after a short rest would take his grub hoe and axe and clear the timber from his land. By dint of hard labor he succeeded in doing this; he than purchased a forty acre tract adjoining and it was upon this farm that Mr. and Mrs. Doser raised their large family of ten children. Some years ago Mr. Doser’s health begin to fail and he and his wife retired from the farm and removed to the village, where they lived together prior to the wife’s death. Mr. Doser had been an invalid for several years. Mr. Doser had been an invalid for several years.
