Mr. Hampton was born in Richmond, VA Feb. 24, 1836, and moved to Wisconsin when 19years of age. He was in the livery business at Richland Center for a long time, retiring 20 years ago. Mr. Hampton was married Nov. 15, 1859, to Sarah Collins, who died in 1905. He was a second cousin of Gen. Wade Hampton, Confederate leader and one time governor of South Carolina. Surviving the centenarian are four sons and a daughter; John, Ladysmith, Richard, William and George, Richland Center, Mrs. Joseph Hansberry, Richland Center. John is 75 years old. There are 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the U.B. Church in Richland Center, Saturday. Burial was in the city cemetery. One of Mr. Hampton’s proudest boasts was that he voted 20 times for president. He was a life long democrat.
