HARRIET FITTS DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER WAS PIONEER SETTLER IN WISCONSIN Mrs. Harriet Fitts passed away about twenty minutes before two o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ellis. Mrs. Fitts had been in failing health for a number of years, at times suffering considerably, especially since the middle of last June. But during all of this time she had kept cheerful and even attempted to think and plan for the comfort of those about her. Her maiden name was Harriet A. Mallette. She was born October 13, 1842 at Sheridan, Chautauqua county, New York. When she was 14 years of age she came west as far as Tiffin, Ohio, with her parents. Here she was married to Francis Fitts. For six years they resided on a farm near Tiffin. In 1849 they moved to Wisconsin locating on a farm about a mile east of Belleville. For the past 21 years Mrs. Fitts has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis, and for 17 years has lived with them here in Evansville. She was a member of the local Congregational church and of the Woman's Missionary society of that church, and was interested in all of its activities. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. B. B. White of Shelby, Michigan; Mrs. G. F. Ellis of this city, and Mrs. Frank White of Oregon, Wis. One son, Albertus Fitts, died 16 years ago. His son, Hubert F. Fitts of Superior, was present at the funeral of his grandmother. The funeral was held at the Ellis home this morning at 10 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. D. Quincy Grabill.
