Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Joseph Willis HASELTINE ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ DIED--At his home in Sheldon, Iowa, friday, March 29, 1895, Joseph Willis Haseltine, aged 76 years, 11 months and four days. A long line of carriages making their way from Brooklyn to the cemetery on the prairie, a blue April sky, a clear day, and all that was mortal of Willis Haseltine is to be laid in their last resting place. Over the road upon which the funeral cortege takes the deceased to his long home, this pioneer has watched the deer and antelope browse. He has been a part of the new life of that region, helping to turn the heavy timber and wild prairie land into a wealthy farming community. Willis Haseltine in his early youth took up the half section known as the "Haseltine farm," and spent the best part of his life upon it, and for half a century took an active interest in the growth and welfare of the vicinity where he lived. In 1849 he was married to Sarah Ann Boyce and three children, two daughters and a son were born to them. His wife and one daughter only, Mrs. Idelle H. Frisbee of Sheldon, Iowa, survive him. After an illness of some months he died in Iowa, where he had resided several years. The funeral was held in Sheldon and the remains, accompanied by his son-in-law, Mr. Fred Frisbee, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Frisbee and Mr. James C. Laughlin, were brought to Brooklyn Tuesday. A short service was held at the grave, where he was laid to rest by the side of his children. April 6, 1895, The Badger, p. 1, col. 5, Evansville, Wisconsin
