Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Ferdinand HESS ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Ferdnand Hess died at his home in the town of Brooklyn, Thursday, Jan. 14, aged 74 years, 11 months and 8 days, of cancer. Mr. Hess was born in Germany, Feb. 6, 1835, where he spent his youth. In 1861, he was united in marriage to Marie Malco, and ten years later came to this country, where he settled in Decatur, living there four years, thence removing to his farm five miles west of this city, which he occupied till his death. To this marriage three children were born, Christy of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Amelia Kleinsmith, and Mrs Minnie Asmus. Besides these a wife, brother in Nebraska, sister, Mrs. Aug. Kruger, in Albany, a sister in Germany and thirteen grandchildren to mourn the loss of a kind and generous man. For the past twenty-four years he has been an active worker in his church and the loss there will be deeply regretted by his co-laborers. His remains were tenderly laid at rest in the Freden's cemetery near his church, Sunday, and a fitting tribute to his memory was the large assembling of friends at the final. The Rev. H. J. Kohlhepp officiating. January 21, 1909, The Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin Ferdinann Hess died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1909, at his home in the town of Brooklyn, five miles west of this city. Mr. Hess was born in Germany and was 74 years, 11 months and 8 days of age. He was married to Marie Maleo in 1861 and came to America in 1871. The family settled in Decatur, Green county, where they lived four years, coming to Brooklyn in 1875, where they have since resided. There are surviving him his widow, one son, Christy, of Chippewa Falls and two daughters, Amelia, wife of Wm. Kleinsmith, and Minnie, the wife of Frank Asmus, three grandchildren, one brother in Nebraska and one sister at Albany, and one in Germany. The funeral was held at the Freden's church last Sunday, the 17th, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. A host of friends testified to the esteem in which Mr. Hess was held by their attendance at the funeral and their sympathy for the bereaved family.
