Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Augustus JEWEL ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Augustus Jewel was a Badger born and bred, his birth place being Mount Pleasant, Green County, and the date of his birth June 18, 1859. His boyhood and youth passed, on July 4, 1881, he was married to Miss Mary Ross at Albany, Wis. to this union was born one daughter, Phila, now Mrs. Floyd Janes, of the country. Fourteen years ago, Mr. Jewel, or "Gus," as he was familiarly called by all who knew him, came to Evansville and engaged in the draying business first in the employ of Mr. Fuller, and later for himself. Always kind and helpful he will be missed on the street as well as in the home. Beside the wife and daughter, there remain to mourn his sudden departure an aged father and mother, one brother and four grandchildren. He was first stricken Thursday afternoon of last week, the hand of paralysis rendering him helpless and unconscious from the first. On Sunday morning, July 20 at 3 o'clock he passed on, being 60 years, one month and 15 days old. An eulogy is always out of place and in "Gus's" case entirely unnecessary, his life was its own vindication. We have lost a friend. CARD OF THANKS To our numerous friends and neighbors we wish to express our heartfelt thanks for their generous kindness in our sorrow. We cannot say how deeply we appreciate your thoughtful sympathy, nor can we fully express our gratitude. Mrs. Jewel, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Janes, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Jewel, Sr. July 24, 1919, Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin
