John Lemmel, one of the best known of the older citizens of Green County,
died at his home in Albany at 9 o'clock Monday, May 19, 1899. For several
days he was at the point of death and his illness was such that there was
no hope for him. Mr. Lemmel was a native of France, having been born near
Strassburg, on Nov. 2, 1825. He was elected county clerk of Green County
and served two terms, and had only recently returned to Albany from Monroe
to engage in business again with his son. He was an uncle of Mr. John
lemmel of this city.
