Calvin Dewitt Leonard was born in Hamilton, Madison Co., N. Y., April 15,
1818. He moved to Ohio in 1842, and from thence to Brooklyn, Wis. in 1848.
He died at his home in Brooklyn May 12, 1892. Aged nearly seventy-four
years. He was a man of particular traits of character, a good neighbor,
kind and loving to his wife and children, a great friend to boys and young
people. He had twice been honored with a seat in the state Legislature and
was a useful member of that body. His death was caused from a wound in his
foot causing lock-jaw. He was sick only a few days. The funeral was held in
the Methodist Episcopal church in Dayton, on Wednesday, conducted by Rev.
H. Sewell, of Evansville.
