He had left his business (carpentering) in chicago, while business was dull and concluded to take the breaks on the railroad, where an uncle was conductor. His labor had just commenced, and while engaged in coupling cars at Harvard, his foot became entangled in some obstruction and before he could extricate himself, the slowly moving train was upon him. The wheels passed over one leg, near the body, and over one arm. The accident occured about 9 o'clock, a.m. and though a dispatch was immediately sent to his parents, his father had scarcely reached the depot here when another came announcing his death-- living but about four hours. His remains were sent up to Janesville, and from there taken to his home in Dayton. Funeral services were held Monday, by Rev. J. M. Craig. it was a sad blow to his stricken parents and friends.
