Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Nancy SMITH ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, April 2008 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Miss Nancy Smith The remains of Miss Nancy Smith, formerly of this place and Moscow, but of late years of Minneapolis, Minn, arrived here Tuesday for interment. The deceased was one of the earliest settlers in this town, she having taught the first school in this district. She had reached the age of 84 years. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. King, with whom she resided, accompanied the remains here which were laid to rest in the Moscow cemetery by the side of her mother. Blanchardville Blade. Miss Smith, better known as Aunt Nancy, will be remembered by the people of Evansville as she lived here many years, owning the Ned Griffith house on Liberty Street. She came to Evansville about 1868 and for years kept Seminary students. Some of her "boys" are well known in this part of the state. Amoung them are Hon. R. M. La Follette, C. F. P. Pullen, cashier of the German-American bank of Milwaukee, Mr. Sam J. Wright, a well known druggist of the same city and several others who have made a success of life. Before coming here Miss Smith had been for years a druggist, owning part interest in a well established business. Her last days were spent with an adopted daughter, Mrs. E. C. King who did everything to make Miss Smith's life peaceful and happy.
