Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Solon J. SMITH ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ Monday afternoon at the Jane McAllister hospital, after many weeks of suffering, which he bore with almost heroic courage, Solon J. Smith, at the age of 65 years passed to the higher life. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1845. He had been a resident of North Chicago for nearly fifteen years, during which time all who knew him had come to recognize his sterling integrity and conscientiousness in all the business relations of life; while having little sympathy with the forms of religion, he had great faith in immortality, which was unshaken to the end. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. S. W. Chidester, and was helpful and comforting. According to the wish of the deceased, the remains were taken to Graceland cemetery in Chicago to be cremated, after which the ashes will be buried in the family lot in Dayton, Wis., The Daily Waukegan, Ill., Sun. June 21, 1911. Mr. Smith was in the furniture business in this city about 25 years ago, and at that time was associated in trade with Mr. Jacob Antes, a former resident, but who now lives in Rockford, Ill. Mr. Smith will be remembered by many of the older citizens for his genial ways and integrity of character. He had one daughter and lived in the house now occupied by Geo. Acheson on Church Street. He was related to Fred Faulkes, whose family were old time residents here. The Evansville Review, June 29, 1911, Evansville, Wisconsin
