She grew up to womanhood in and near the old home. She has spent from twenty to twenty- five years in the city of Evansville. She was naturally of a quiet retiring nature and endeared herself, from early girlhood all through her life, to those who knew her, for her unselfish helpfulness was proverbial. During the long sickness of her parents she was faithful to their every need anticipating every want and doing before it was asked of her. She was converted under the ministrations of Rev. J. C. Steele and united by baptism with the Free Baptist Church of Evansville, September, 1894. About one year ago she presented the church with a beautiful individual communion service, which will be hever held as a memorial of her love for the church. Miss Stevens met with a fatal accident on Thursday afternoon May 16, while burning some rubbish in the yard of her home, and although all that could be done was done by doctors and nurse and loving hands of brothers and sister and friends, and she was thought to be doing well until Thursday, May 23. She was taken much worse and at 6:30 p.m., she was released from the terrible suffering, and at peace with God and the world she sweetly rests. She leaves three brothers, George of Minnesota, John of Evansville and Edgar of Madison. Since the death of their parents Eva and John have lived in the home on South Madison street. She was fifty four years, eleven months and twenty-three days old. The funeral was held on Sunday May 26, from the Free Baptist church, and the burial at the Welsh settlement, Green county. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. H. Myers. May 30, 1912, Evansville Review, Evansville, Wisconsin. p. 4, col. 2 & 3.
