Obituary: Green County, Wisconsin: Rufus STOCKWELL ************************************************************************ Submitted by Ruth Ann Montgomery, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ An Old Settler Passes Away Mr. Rufus Stockwell, aged 74 years, died at his home in this city on Monday morning, March 4, 1901, of Bright's disease. The deceased was born in Painsville, O., came to Wisconsin about 55 years ago; and was soon after married in Union to Miss Cena J. Rolf who was from the same place in Ohio. They moved onto a farm on the west side of Jug Prairie, where they resided until about 18 years ago when they moved to this city where Mrs. Stockwell died about 9 years since. Mr. Stockwell was again married two years later to Mrs. Harriet S. Helms, who with his two sons by his first wife Henry A. Proprietor of the Powers hotel in Lyle, Minn. and Wm. L. of Plana, S. D., survive him, and are present at the funeral together with Allie R., of Austin, Minn., son of Henry A. Mr. Stockwell has always been a hard working highly respected cizien whom we all regret to have taken from us and the relatives have the deepest sympathy of this entire community where he has resided so long. Funeral at the home on Liberty street Wednesday at one o'clock p.m. and the remains will be interred in the Stone school house cemetery on the prairie beside those of his first wife and daughter Luella, who departed this life when but 5 years of age.
