Broken piece: Gone home Symbol: open book Additional Comments: More from the DAR dedication program: "After the Revolution, Governor George Clinton, first governor of the State of New York, talked of her Family twice in his speeches. The most notable quote being "old Ferris, the Quaker, pulpiter of this place (he was talking about her great-grandfather)... the only Quakers on or about this Hill, the public stand indebted to. These firm men and Whigs in the very face of their meeting (meaning Quaker church), would be disowned and read out, for their very over Patriotism...These...families are, in my most scrupulous opinion, such as must extort from me, as a public and zealous officer, my testimony with you in their favor, perhaps, at a future day."
