The assembly consists of 100 members, who are chosen biennially by districts, and who receive a compensation of $500 for their term of office. The speaker is chosen by the members, and receives $500 for his services. The assembly contains 91 republicans, 8 democrats and 1 fusion. WAUPACA COUNTY. Second District. The towns of Bear Creek, Dupont, Harrison, Helvetia, Iola (in- eluding Iola village), Larrabee, Lebanon, Matteson, Mukwa, Union and Wyoming, and the city of Clintonville, and the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth wards of the city of New London. Population in 1895—14,571. ANDREW JENSEN (Rep.), of Ogdensburg, Waupaca county, was born June 2, 1852, near the city of Copenhagen, Denmark; was educated in the common schools of Denmark and Ogdensburg, Wisconsin; came to this country with his parents in 1867, locating at Neenah in this state; lived at Ogdensburg from November, 1867, until 1884, when he moved to a farm in the township of Helvetia, his present home; began the business of lumbering in 1871, and is a lumberman and farmer by occupation; has held various town and school offices. He was elected to the assembly in 1896, receiving 2,332 votes, against 791 for G. Sullivan, democrat.
