LYMAN WELLINGTON THAYER (Rep.) was born October 30, 1854, at Wausau, Wis.; was educated in Wausau common schools and Jones’ Commercial College at St. Louis, Mo. Lived at Wausau until 1886 when he removed to Ripon, where he has since resided. Was engaged in lumbering at Wausau until 1886, and has since been engaged in stockraising. Has been repeatedly elected chairman of the town of Ripon since 1890; was chairman of county board of supervisors of Fond du Lac county in 1895; was elected to the assembly in 1892 and to the state senate in 1894 to fill the unexpired term of Hon. S. M. Smead, resigned. Was made chairman of the joint committee on apportionment, and also chairman of the joint special committee on apportionment at the special session of the legislature in February, 1896; was re-elected to the senate in 1896, receiving 8,229 votes against 6,617 votes for Benj. F. Sweet, fusion democrat. He was elected president pro tempore of the senate in 1897.
