They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. ROCK - Third district. The towns of Avon, Beloit, Clinton, Newark, Plymouth, Spring Valley, Turtle, and the village of Clinton and the city of Beloit. Population in 1900 -18,656. (District changed. See new apportionment, following biographies.) HALVOR CLEOPHAS (Rep.), of Beloit, Is a farmer of common school education. He was born in Norway July 21, 1842, and came to Wisconsin in 1843. He has served twelve years as chairman of the town board of Newark, Rock county, and was elected to the assembly by 3,411 votes to 894 for John Burns (Dem.), and 137 for J. B. Smith (Pro.).
