They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. PORTAGE COUNTY. First District. The towns of Carson, Eau Pleine, Hull, Sharon, and the city of Stevens Point. Population in 1900-15,809. (Changed. Portage county now one district.) WILLIAM F. COLLINS (Dem.), of Stevens Point, Is a lawyer, educated in common and high schools and the University of Wisconsin. He was born in Stevens Point in 1869, was engrossing clerk of the state assembly in the session of 1891, clerk of the senate Judiciary committee, session of 1893, and member of the Board of Education of Stevens Point 1896 to 1898. He was elected to the assembly in 1900 by 1,736 votes to 1,314 for Augustus Oesterie (Rep.).
