They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. GREEN COUNTY. Population, 1900 - 22,719. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) A. CLARKE DODGE (Rep.), of Monroe, was born Nov., 1834, in the town of Barre, Vt., and was educated in the common schools and Barre Academy. He came to Monroe, Wis., In 1855, and his business is dealing in lumber, grain and coal. He was five times chairman of the Board of supervisors of Green county; delegate to the Republican National convention in 1884; presidential elector on the Republican ticket In 1888; member of the board of education In Monroe twenty-five years, most of the time Its chairman. He was elected to the assembly In 1898, and was appointed to the committee on cities. In the election of 1900 Mr. Dodge received 2,892 votes, against 1,881 for Henry Hoehn (Dem.), and served as chairman of the committee on Military Affairs and member of committee on Cities.
