They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. RACINE - Second District. The towns of Burlington,. Caledonia, Dover, Mt. Pleasant, Norway, Raymond, Rochester, Waterford, Yorkville, Union Grove, and the 7th ward of the city of Racine. Population in 1900- 20,837. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) GEORGE ELA (Rep.), of Rochester, was born in the town in which lie resides, Oct. 11, 1868. He was educated in the Rochester Seminary, graduating from that school in 1887, and from the University of Wisconsin in 1894. His business is that of a dairyman. and stock raiser; he held the office of supervisor o the town o Rochester in 1895, '96, '97, '98 and '99 and was chairman of the county board of supervisors of Racine county in 1896, 1897,1898 and 1900. He was elected to the assembly in 1898, and again in 1900 by 2,372 votes, against 1,821 for E. F. Rakow (Dem.), and 121 for W. E, Tucker (Pro.).
