They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. PORTAGE-Second District. The towns of Alban, Almond, Amherst, Belmont, Buena Vista, Grant, Lanark, Linwood, New Hope, Pine Grove, Plover and Stockton. Population in 1900 - 13,674. (Changed. Portage county now one district.) FRED J. (Josiah Frederick) FROST (Rep.), of Almond, Portage county, was born in that town and county, May 20, 1858. He attended the district school, the high schools of Berlin find Oshkosh and the Oshkosh Normal school, after which he taught school a number of winters. He is a farmer, does a general insurance business and deals in farm implements. He was a member of the assembly of 1899 and was elected again in 1900 by 1,953 votes to 965 for John Frederick (Dem.).
