They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. FOND DU LAC COUNTY. First District. The towns of Calumet, Empire, Forest, Fond du Lac, Friendship, Marshfield, Osceola, Taycheedah, and the city of Fond du Lac. Population, 1900 - 25,118. (Changed by apportionment of 1901, Osceola town being omitted from-this district. Population of new district - 24,041.) RAPHAEL KATZ (Dem.), of Fond du Lac, was born Nov. 21, 1841, in Kurnik, Province Posen, Germany, and was educated in the public schools. He came to the United States in 1856, and after spending nearly eleven years in New York, California and Illinois, went to Fond du Lac In 1867, established himself in mercantile business and after continuing the same for thirty-three years retired from It in March, 1900. He is now serving his fourth term of three years each as a director of the Fond du Lac Public library and was twice elected by unanimous vote of the council a member of the School board. He was elected to the assembly in 1900, receiving 3,259 votes, against 2,&"6 for P. H. Morarity (Rep.).
