They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. JEFFERSON COUNTY. First District. The towns of Cold Springs, Concord, Farmington, Hebron, Ixonia, Palmyra, Sullivan find Watertown, and the village of Palmyra, and the 1st, 2d, 3rd, 4th and 7th wards of the city of Watertown. Population in 1900 - 16,712. (Changed by apportionment of 1901. Population of new district - 17,377.) GEORGE J. KERN (Dem.), of Rome, Jefferson county, was born in the town of Herman, Dodge county, April 6, 1850. He Is a farmer, educated In public and parochial schools. He moved to the town of Sullivan, Jefferson county, In 1868. He has been assessor of the town of Sullivan two years, supervisor two years and Is now in his seventh year as member of the County board. He has been president of the Sullivan Mutual are Insurance company several terms, president of the Rome Dairy company two years, its secretary and treasurer five years and school clerk of his district twenty-one years. He was elected to the assembly by 2,081 votes, against 1,656 for Gustav Bucheit (Rep.).
