They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. MILWAUKEE-Second District. The 2d and 4th wards of the City of Milwaukee. Population In 1900 - 20,588. (Changed by apportionment of 1901. Now wards 2 and 6.) MAURICE A. McCABE (Dem.), of Milwaukee, is a lawyer. He graduated from the Law department of the University of Wisconsin in 1896. He was born in Milwaukee April 25, 1872, and obtained his earlier education in private schools of the city, graduating from Marquette College with the degree of A. M. in 1892. He was elected to the assembly, receiving 2,549 votes, against 2,186 for M. Laffey (Rep.), 284 for Fred Weingard (Soc.-Dem.), and 101 for E. C. Notbohm (Ind.).
