They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. BAYFIELD, SAWYER AND WASHBURN COUNTIES. Population, 1900-23,506. (This district unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) W. L. McCORMICK (Rep.), of Hayward, Sawyer county, was born in Waseca, Minn., June 12, 1876. He has held no office of any kind until elected member of the assembly in 1900, when he was a lone candidate for the office, having no opponent, and received 3,983 votes. He is a son of R. L. McCormick, who was a leading member of the Minnesota State Senate in 1891. W. L. McCormick was educated in the schools of Faribault, Minn., Andover, Mass., Yale University, and studied law in the University of Wisconsin. He is assistant cashier of the Sawyer County Bank.
