They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. CHIPPEWA COUNTY - First District. The towns of Lafaytte, Sigel, Tilden and Wheaton, the village of Cadott, and the 2nd, 3d, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th wards of the city of Chippewa Falls. Population, 19 13,850. (This district changed by apportionment of 1901. Population of district now, 15,676.) JOSEPH MELONEY (Rep.), of Bloomer, Is a native of Chippewa county, and was born In the town of Tilden Feb. 8, 1864. lie was educated In the common schools and is a farmer. He has been town assessor two years, chairman seven years, the last five years chair-man of the county board, school district treasurer thirteen years, director of the Eagle Point Insurance company eight years, director of the Farmers Store company three years and is now president of that company. He was elected to the assembly in 1900 by 1,593 votes to 1,242 for A. J. McGilvray (Dem.).
