They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. WINNEBAGO COUNTY. First District. The town of Oshkosh, and the 1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th wards of the city of Oshkosh. Population in 1900-M,317. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) H. E. MANUEL (Rep.), of Oshkosh, retired from business in 1894. He was born in Vinland, Wis., Jan. 8, 1849, obtained common school education and was many years in business as a manufacturer of steam engines and other machinery. He was elected to the assembly in 1900 by 2,329 votes, against 2,216 for F. B. Ives (Dem.), and 95 for A. C. Smith (Pro.).
