They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. PIERCE COUNTY. Population, 1900-23,943. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) HARRY J. PARK (Rep.), of Spring Valley, was born in the town of Trimbell, Pierce county, Dec. 24, 1868. He acquired education in the schools of that county and in Cambridge, Mass. He is engaged in mercantile business, was elected village clerk of Spring Valley in 1899, village president in 1900 and to the assembly by 3,154 votes, against 1,076 for William F. Gearing (Dem.).
