They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. OUTAGAMIE COUNTY. First District. The towns of Center, Dale, Ellington, Grand Chute, Greenville and the city of Appleton. Population in 1900-22,068. (Changed. Bovina town added. Population - 23,102. W. L. ROOT (Rep.), of Appleton, was born in Jefferson county, N. Y., March 4, 1837, and came to Wisconsin Dec. 16, 1858. He was educated in the district schools of Jefferson county, N. Y.; is a farmer and produce shipper. He has been treasurer and clerk of his town and was elected to the assembly by 2,421 votes, against 2,102 for David Zehner (Dem.).
