They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. WAUPACA COUNTY. First District. The towns of Caledonia, Dayton, Farmington, Fremont, Lind, Little Wolf, Royalton, Scandinavia, St. Lawrence, Waupaca, Weyauwega, and the villages of Fremont, Scandinavia, Manawa, Weyanwega, and the city of Waupaca. Population in 1900-16,337. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) EMIL H. STEIGER (Rep.), of Fremont, Waupaca county, was born Sept. 17, 1871, in the town in which he now resides, and was educated in the public schools and the Oshkosh Business college. His business is that of wholesale dealer in wood, potatoes, real estate and hay for the Wisconsin Grass Twine company, and he is also interested in logging. He held the office of supervisor of his village in 1897 and 1898, and is a member of the Waupaca Republican county committee. He was elected to the assembly in 1898, and again in 1900, receiving 2,924 votes, against 629 for Henry Hanna (Dem.).
