LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR.

JESSE STONE (Rep.), of Watertown, Jefferson county, was born Aug. 28,
1836, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, and received his education in the com-
mon schools; came to this country in 1841 and to Wisconsin Aug. 1, 1869; has
always resided at Watertown, Jefferson county, and is a manufacturer. He
was elected to the assembly in 1880 and again in 1882; was a member of the
school board of the city of Watertown in 1882; was a delegate to the national
convention in 1888 and also in 1892; was a member of the state central com-
mittee from 1888 until 1894, and was elected to the assembly In 1896. He was
elected lieutenant governor in 1898, and again in 1900, receiving 263,993 votes
against 160,044 for Thomas H. Patterson (Dem.), 9,892 for Thorvild K. Thorvil-
son (Pro.), 6,673 for George Dicke (Soc.-Dem.), and 655 for George Mensing
(Soc.-Lab.).
