They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. MILWAUKEE-Thirteenth District. The, 12th ward of the city of Milwaukee. Population in 1900-17,026. (Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) HENRY J. SOLTAWEDEL (Rep.), of Milwaukee, was born Aug. 4, 1859, at Beuthen, Germany. He came with his parents to this country in 1868, settling in the Thirteenth ward of the city of Milwaukee, receiving his education in the public and parochial schools of that city. Since 1873 his occupation has been that of a barber, and for thirteen consecutive years he was proprietor of the Schlitz hotel barber shop. He was elected to the assembly in 1898, and again in 1900, receiving 1,623 votes, against 1,232 for Ernest Leidel (Dem.), and 271 for Henry Harbicht (Soc. Dem.).
