They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The Speaker Is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as Speaker. The Assembly of 1901 contains 82 Republicans and 18 Democrats. EAU CLAIRE COUNTY. First District. The town of Seymour and the city of Altoona, and the 1st, 2d, 3d, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th wards of the city of Eau Claire. Population in 1900 - 15,790. Unchanged by apportionment of 1901.) JOHN H. YOUNG (Rep.), of Eau Claire, was born in Oquakwa, Ill., Oct. 19, 1856, and came to Wisconsin in 1858. He obtained a common school education and is a lumberman. While never an office seeker, he has served two years as alderman for the Third ward of Eau Claire. In obedience to the wishes of Republicans of his district he became a candidate for the position of assemblyman 1900 and was elected by 2,118 votes, against 1,001 for George Ritzinger (Dem.).
