They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their service during the term. The speaker is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as speaker. The assembly of 1003 contains 75 republicans and 25 democrats. ROCK COUNTY. Third-District. The towns of Avon, Beioit, Clinton, Newark, Plymouth and Turtle, the village of Clinton, and the city of Beioit. Population, 1900—17,210. JAMES ALBERT BRITTAN (Rep.), was born in Beioit, Rock county, Wis., Jan. 5, 1876; received his education in the Beioit public schools; is a machinist by occupation. Had never held a public position until elected member of assembly in 1902, receiving 2,314 votes against 500 for William H. Meyers (Dem.), and 95 for Eugene L. Benedict (Pro.).
