Astronomer, Washburn Observatory, 1884-85. Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy, Ohio State University, 1885-87. Professor of Astronomy, University of Wisconsin, and Associate Director Washburn Observatory, 1887. Director Washburn Observatory, 1889. Member National Academy of Sciences, 1899. Published five volumes of Publications of the Washburn Observatory; Method of Least Squares, 1889; Textbook of Astronomy 1900; Field Astronomy for Engineers, 1902; numerous scientific papers in the Astronomical Journal, Sidereal Messenger, Astronomy and Astro-Physics, Astronomische Nachrichten, Astro-physical Journal, etc. Additional Comments: The Blue Book of the State of Wisconsin.
