STATE OFFICERS. SECRETARY OF STATE. WALTER L. HOUSER (Rep.), of Mondovi, Buffalo County, was born May 6th, 1855, in Tidioute, Warren County, Pennsylvania. He came to Wisconsin with his mother in 1865 and settled in Pierce Comity. Received a common school and academic education. He settled in Mondovi in 1875 and founded the Mondovi Herald in 1876, of which paper he is still part proprietor. He is also engaged in farming and stock raising. Besides some local offices, he has held the position of clerk of the committees on enrolled bills and judiciary in the senate, assistant chief clerk in the assembly and chief clerk of the senate. He was elected secretary of state in 1902, receiving 193,631 votes against 134,755 for Louis A. Lange (Dem.), 9,648 for John C. Martin (Pro.), 17,360 for Edward Ziegler (Soc. Dem.), and 854 for John Vierthaler (Soc. Lab.). Additional Comments: The Blue Book of the State of Wisconsin.
