SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. Adams, Columbia, Dane, Green Lake, Jefferson and Marquette Counties. Population, 1900-170,792. HENRY CULLEN ADAMS (Rep.) was born in Verona, Oneida county, N. Y., Nov. 28, 1850, and came with his parents to Wisconsin the following year; received his education in the common schools, Albion Academy and the University of Wisconsin; later he engaged in dairying and fruit raising; was elected member of assembly in 1883 and re- elected in 1885; during the winters of 1887, 1888 and 1889 took an active part in the Wisconsin Farmers' Institutes through-out the state; was president of the State Dairymen's Association three years; secretary of the State Horticultural Society two years; was appointed by Gov. Hoard superintendent of public property in 1888; was appointed dairy and food commissioner in 1895 and served until May 1, 1902, when he resigned to become a candidate for congress; was elected to the 58th Congress and re- elected in 1904, receiving 22,773 votes against 15,205 for John J. Wood (Dem.), 958 for Wm. J. McKay (Pro.), and 461 for Henry J. Dunham (Soc. Dem.). Additional Comments: Erickson, Halford. The Blue Book of the State of Wisconsin.
