Legislature. Assembly, p. 1139

HERMAN L. KERN, Speaker; C. E. SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE,
Sergeant-at-Arms.

The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennially and
receive $500 for their services during their term. The speaker is
chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services
as speaker. The assembly of 1907 contains 76 republicans, 19
democrats, and 5 social democrats.

Milwaukee County. (p. 1160) Fourth District. The 15th and 16th wards
of the city of Milwaukee. Population, 1900 - 22,346.

GEORGE F. GRASSE (Rep.) was born in Metheuen, Mass., April 25,1871,
lived in Oshkosh and Appleton, Wis., Sycamore, Ill., and Keokuk, Ia.,
until 1885 when with his parents moved to Milwaukee where he has lived
practically continuously since. Graduated from Beloit college in 1895
and engaged in newspaper business which vocation he still follows. Was
elected member of assembly in 1906, receiving 2,873 votes against
1,093 for Isadore Leiser (Dem.) and 828 for Patrick Devine (Soc.
Dem.).
