HERMAN L. KERN, Speaker; C. E. SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE,
Sergeant-at-Arms.

The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennially and
receive $500 for their services during their term. The speaker is
chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services
as speaker. The assembly of 1907 contains 76 republicans, 19
democrats, and 5 social democrats.

Monroe County. (p. 1164) One District. Population, 1900 - 23,103.

JOHN R. JONES (Rep.) was born at Pittsburg, Pa. in the year of 1850,
of Welsh parentage. Came west with his parents in 1856, and settled on
a farm in the town of Leon, Monroe county, Wis. Received a common and
high school education. Is by occupation a farmer. Held various offices
in his town, and was chairman eleven years. Was elected twice chairman
of the county board, and one term chairman of the republican county
committee of his county. In 1906 was elected member of assembly for
said county, receiving 2,083 votes against 1,428 for Myron Brackett
(Dem.).
