SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE, Sergeant-at-Arms. The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their services during their term. The speaker is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as speaker. The assembly of 1907 contains 76 republicans, 19 democrats, and 5 social democrats. Pierce County. (p. 1167) One District. Population, 1900 - 23,943. WILLIAM A. KAY (Rep.) was born in the town of Martell, Pierce county, Wis., on the 22nd day of February, 1864. Received a common school education. His business is farming and stock raising. Is now serving his fourteenth year as school district treasurer; was elected supervisor of his town in 1894, re-elected in 1895; was elected assessor in 1896, and was elected chairman of his town in the years 1897, 1898, 1900, 1901, 1903, 1904. Was elected first vice-president of the Pierce Co. Farmers' Co-operative Mercantile Co. in 1904 and re- elected in 1905 and 1906. Was elected to the assembly in 1906, receiving 1,628 votes against 599 votes for Geo. T. Heslin (Dem.) and 46 votes for Geo. D. Smith (Soc. Dem.).
