SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE, Sergeant-at-Arms. The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennially and receive $500 for their services during their term. The speaker is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as speaker. The assembly of 1907 contains 76 republicans, 19 democrats, and 5 social democrats. Milwaukee County. (pp. 1161-1162) Eighth District. The 8th and 23d wards of the city of Milwaukee. Population, 1900 - 19,332. SIMON KANDER (Rep.), of Milwaukee, was born in Baltimore, Md., December 21st, 1848. Moved to Williamsport, Pa., where he received his education in the public schools and Dickinson Seminary. From Williamsport, moved to Titusville, Pa., whence after a residence of several years, he came to Milwaukee with his parents in 1868 where he has since that time resided. Mr. Kander has been engaged in the real estate business for the past twenty years. Was school commissioner four years, and has always taken a deep interest in educational matters. Since becoming a voter he has always acted with the republican party. He was elected member of assembly in 1906, receiving 1,563 votes against, 1,192 for Edwin Scaffe (Soc. Dem.).
